DOMAINE BASTIEN JOLIVET

—Rhone, St Joseph

Bastien Jolivet of Domaine Jolivet is a budding star in Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, Saint Joseph which is part of the original 6 communes delineated in 1956 before the appellation was expanded in 1969.

The Domaine began in 2014 when Bastien, returned from his various internships (Domaine du Monteillet in Condrieu, as well as in New Zealand and South Africa). He decided with his father to stop selling the fruit from their 10 hectares to the local cooperative and to begin bottling their own wine. Their wines won immediate recognition, culminating in Paris with the award Grand Prix “Discovery of the Year 2020” by the Review of the Wine of France for best new winemaker.

The vines grow on the granite hill of Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, with south/southeast exposure, some of which are up to 75 years old. The work in the vineyard is almost entirely done by hand. The wines display a lot of character, power, and aromatic purity.
